LARP Profile: Twilight Realms

Group Name: Twilight Realms

Describe Your Game Genre: High Fantasy, but we also sometimes run low fantasy or horror events.

Who Creates Characters: A Combination of Both

How Much Plot is Tailored to individual Characters?: It Varies

How Long Has the Group Been Running For?:
Over 10 years – we had an initial run which was a 10 year campaign in our high fantasy campaign world of Tempress. After a hiatus we came up with low fantasy and horror events. Campaigning in Tempress has just restarted. This new game is set 10 years after the end of the initial campaign

What Makes Your Events Friendly to New Players?:
The referees and world gms do their best to give players background information and include them in plot. Although games are built as part of an ongoing campaign and continuity each event is self contained. So that you don’t need a lot of lore to participate. Role Playing and improvisation is encouraged

How Frequently do you run events and for a players what is the commitment level to attend all events like?:
No commitment to attend all events. Normally we run around 2-4 events year.

Typically What Are the Facilities Like at your Game Sites?:

Facilities are very good. Our games are catered for most meals – the extent of catering  is made clear for each event. We always look for locations with good sleeping facilities. This normally means bunk rooms. And also bathrooms and showers. Most of the sites we play at also have disabled access.

Finally Tell us anything else you would like to about Your Game World, and How Your Events Work:
The majority of games are based in the campaign world of Tempress. This is a high fantasy world with player generated politics

We also run a low fantasy setting based roughly on Dark Ages England at the time of the Viking Raids

On occasion we run horror orientated events.

How Frequently do you run events and for a players what is the commitment level to attend all events like?:

Typically What Are the Facilities Like at your Game Sites?: The events are 24 hour time in, self catered camping. There are showers and toilets available for all players. We welcome non-combatants.

Finally Tell us anything else you would like to about Your Game World, and How Your Events Work:

The world has changed. Two and a half years ago, technology failed, society collapsed and millions starved. Many of the survivors of the rioting and unforgiving first winter then fell to a virus, an unnatural disease that kept the body alive but destroyed the mind. Those few who remained began to fight over the few remaining resources.

However, there are some shining beacons of humanity scattered across the country. Places where simply waking up is not punctuated by the screams of the dying, either at the hands of Raiders, Shamblers, or something worse. Safety from the disease, starvation and jealousy. Such places are few, but as the world becomes more dangerous, we look to rebuild.

Come, take your place by the fire, share your story and live to fight another day.

LARP Profile: Lichwood Grove

LARP Profile: Lichwood Grove

Group Name: Lichwood Grove

Group Website: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LichwoodGrove/

Background: Lichwood Grove was formed in summer 2014 with just four people and has been growing steady ever since. We have a strong core of regulars who are happy to help anyone whether new or experienced in LARP.

We are part of the Amtgard Canada (the Northern Empire) and we like to travel between parks regularly, as well as take part in cross gaming events where we can learn about other systems.

We always have loaner gear available so all that is required is just to show up with a positive attitude and an imagination.

Your Game System: We use the Amtgard v8.0 rule set, which is high fantasy and has a sporty focus. There are several layers to the system so if someone shows up day one with no knowledge they can still jump in and have fun. This can happen while veterans can get intense and plan out class combinations as well as build elaborate spell list to form their play style.

It allows for a wide variety of customization when it comes to your character, while also keeping everything mostly balanced. We have ‘wizard’ that are akin to jedi, ‘barbarians’ who are like stoic Samurai, ‘bards’ who are one man armies, and ‘healers’ who are necromancers. If there is anything you wish to play you can make it here.

This is a boffer larp that is not lightest touch so some impacts can be somewhat hard. With that said all weapons are checked regularly to ensure everyone is safe. There is a minimum of one inch of closed cell foam around any striking core and striking surfaces must have a cross section of 2.5 inches.

Your Game World: There are multiple Amtgard chapters around the world but in Kitchener Ontario we play in the Lichwood Forest. There are magical natural deposits to fight over, factions of competing bodies to gain reputation from, beasts to slay, terrain to avoid, and of course a strong sense of community between the citizens of the town.

In regards to races a person can play pretty much anything they want as Lichwood has many denizens and is welcoming to all peoples who will stand with them on the frontier.

Play Style: While most games are just battlegames with a small bit of meaning going to character development there are quests that have lasting effects to Lichwood. Victories, losses, and draws are all taken account of when it comes quest lines. When caught in the middle some adventures need to make morally grey choices having to choose between the needs of the man verses the needs of a few. Fates are decided by our players hands; not the cosmic world ending ones but the deep personal ones that will rock players to their core.

As with all things the darkness is made that much darker when contrasted with levity. Lichwood is on the frontier of civilization which attracts a certain type of outsider. We have a wide cast of ‘unique’ citizens to entertain and make light of situations when called for.

When Are Your Games: All games happen at 10 chopin drive, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Rain or shine.

We have fighter practices every Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, where we improve our strikes and technique as well as try out new costume and garb. Not only is it a nice break in the middle of the week but it helps our members become better players in both safety and execution.

Every Sunday (12pm-3pm)we have our regular field where players have a chance to participate in battlegames, roleplay, or even go on quests. It is fun to see your local park get turned into a world of fantasy before your very eyes.

Profile For Wyvernstales Larp

Profile For Wyvernstales Larp

Background

About Your Group: We have been running over 15 years using a variety of systems, currently we are running Forest Argent and occasionally Fairy Tales.
We run in both Exeter and Southampton day events, as well as between 3 – 4 weekend events a year.

With plenty of kit to lend to new people and many years of experience running events, our games are inclusive with a drive to make each one better due to an open ear to our participants.

The Game System

Forest Argent – Low hit, strange science and dangerous magic. Character creation is simple, with lots of room for players to personalise there characters. We use bead bags to work out the effects of certain skills. Leading to the infamous BOOM!!! Cards.

Fairy Tales – Low hit, with characters built around classic Archetype. Certain skills come with a wax seal of certain colours. If you can find a clue with the correct coloured wax seal on then you can open it. Notably there is no magic rules in FairyTales, if you think you have encountered it (which of course you haven’t) your discretion and roleplaying is trusted.

The Game Worlds

Forest Argent – A selection of worlds, which have come into conjunction through a nebulous area called “The Forest Argent”. Game themes include Exploration, Culture Clash, Trade, Combat and Negotiation.

Fairy Tales – At the end of the Great Anarchy in England strange mysteries and terrible spectacles are investigated by quite agents. Game themes Investigation, Combat, Murder Mystery, History and Occult Horror.

Your Play Style

Forest Argent – dangerous combat, big characters, sudden silliness or danger in equal amounts.

Fairy Tales – brutal combat, historical roleplay, lots of running away.

When Are Your Games

Three weekenders, one always over a May bank holiday.

Day events on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month.

Profile For: Shards of Massagon

Profile For: Shards of Massagon

Background

Shards of Massagon is a Virginia based LARP that serves players from all over the central east coast. We operate as a LLC organization dedicated to providing our players with a lively, gritty game world, a great deal of depth, roleplay, and fun.

Your Game System:

Shards of Massagon LARP LLC has employed over a hundred of years of combined LARP experience and thousands of hours of creation time to build a well-honed system to express combat in our fantasy world. It has been a labor of love that grew from an idea to a 15 man build team over the course of nearly a decade. Honest time and dedication, testing and player response has in the end created a thoroughly tested system that, when employed properly, can enhance story elements of the game without interrupting flow and pacing. We proudly call this system the Conflict System.

Your Game World:

Starting a character in Shards of Massaong LARP can be daunting at the outset, but rewarding at the end. The wold of Massagon is old, rich, and full of hidden secrets that can leave you digging for deeper and deeper understanding while hungering for more.

Your Play Style:

In Shards of Massagon LARP, we have a specific design intent for character growth and interaction. The balance of the Quintessial Arts is towards Player vs. Environment, not Player vs Player. It should be known that we balance the game against the classes and vice versa. A character’s power growth tends to be sharp at the outset and levels off in favor of variety in the long run, with the ability for players to recreate many archetypal themes! There is NO penalty for multi-classing, and it is strongly encouraged.

When Are Your Games:

Shards of Massagon hosts weekend game events once per month in Virginia (United States).
